THANK YOU to New Orleans’ Mayor the Honorable LaToya Cantrell for her courage, compassion and reverence for justice.

In 2017, I, Luke Fontana produced a 13 minute film via a kind grant from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation. entitled MERCY ON THE BAYOU.  It is based on the horrific lynching of 11 Italians inside Orleans Parish prison in 1891.

On Friday, April 12, 2019, Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued an official Proclamation of Apology on behalf of the City of New Orleans for the 1891 lynching of Italian in New Orleans. The American Italian Cultural Center, Commission for Social Justice, and the Order Sons of Italy coordinated this event.
